This year have been a very interesting one. Especially in our Public Speaking class. I know that public speaking is good a scary thing for most people. I know I was definately scared when I knew I had to take the class, but it was something that I had to do in order to full a GE credit. Given my experience this semester, the advice I would give to someone preparing a deliberative speech is to first decide on a topic that is going to be intesting and striking the attention of the audience. Once a topic of interest is picked, the next thing to do is to decide on who your audience are going to be. This is a very critical part of delivering a speech because you don't want to hurt anyone or seem too strong to one side. You must be willing to present the argument in not just your perspective, but also also from another perspective. Basically presenting both sides of the arguments, yet presenting yours in an appropriate fashion. This method is known as finching an anchor point. First one must find a lattidue of acceptance, then a latitude of rejection and finallly a latitude of non commitment. These are important steps because your speech is intended to persuade, not expressing your believes. In order to see an example of this...check out our group blog and see an outline that presented both the different sides of the argument. bigtymers. Another important advice is to take it easily and not try to cover too much ground. This means that you are not going to take the audience right to the point and tell them that this ( whatever the speech is about) is good or bad, but rather to move them little by little in order to persuade them to try and see things your way a little, but no tell them or be judgemental as to suggest that their views and values are wrong.
Honestly, my opinion about writing a speech has changed a lot. When first told that we were going to write a speech on a topic of our choice and present it, I didn't think this was going to be a hard task, but it turned out to be kind of difficult not only for me, but also my group. For this speech, I was very lucky and happy to be working with my girls fatimaMaybach23 and Jessica binger05. While working on the speech we ran into several problems which I will present in order that you or someone else don't repeat these mistakes. First, trying to make the speech sound too formal. This was not a good idea, because the teacher Gilbert said that presenting a speech that is too formal will lead to a boring and complicated sounding speech. This was very true, because after making suggestions that he made, the speech sounded more simplier and enjoyable. Another thing to do in order to appeal to the audience is to add in some humor or something that will related the subject matter to the audience. I think it was great how several groups used special aspects of their districts to appeal to the audience and present a sense of personal touch.groupfour4comm, and g-7.blogspot.com.
Also in order to organize the speech, one should first have a content..meaning that they invent the story. Come up with the raw material and brainstorming. The next thing to do is to use forms. This can be done with the help of one of the most useful tools.....a source known as Silvera rhetoricrhetoric. with the help of this source, new ways of presenting materials in a speech can be inserted. Through the use of this tool, materials or ideas in the speech can be presented in a way in which it will not cause a division among the audience or the listeners. This a a source in which to present your ideas and argument in a creative, yet very diplomatic manner. It was interesting to find those terms not only in the State Of the Union Address, but also in our own speech. Again, You can refer to our blog for examples listed thoughout our speech.bigtymers. The next and most important thing in presenting a speech is the delivery. In order to produce a persuasive and interesting speech, delivery is one of the most important, if not important. This is a important tool because no matter how good the speech is, if the message is not delivered right, then it does the speech writers no good. In order to present a good delivery,a helpful tool similar to the rhetoric tool is known as McGuffey's tutor. Through this technique one can practice delivery, inflection and emphasis on important words. Once this skill is mastered, then one can then be capable of delivering a well persuasive and informative speech. This year has certainly been an experience. I'm glad to say that even though we didn't do too much, we still got enough background, help, and very useful tools that can lead to the development of a very great speech.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss!!!!! Finally made it. It's officially the last day of classes! This is the day I've been waiting for since I got on this campus on September 1st, and it's finally here. There are many benefits that comes with this joyous celebration. First...it means summer is right around the corner.......NO more 8:30 classes (well unless summer school messes me up), no more going to classes and sitting there listening to boring teachers or teachers I can't stand. But most of all it means no more homework or stupid ass papers! Can you feel it coming on???????..........I can and it definately feels like the best orgasm ever...kinda like having sex after right after one's very first time. Any ways......the celebration must continue and will later tonight when I'm through studying for my test. It has been a great year....many, many, many memories....that certainly will not be forgotten. Have a great year everyone and to graduation seniors.....CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK IN YOUR FUTURE ENDEAVORS....and the rest of you coming back.........HOW SO SAD!!!!!!
Last night The African Student Association (ASA) had their gala. I'm a member of this organization...in fact as of right now, I am the president. Our goal to to educate people on campus about the continent of Africa and eliminate some of the stereotypes that are presented when dealing with Africa. This event was the end and final celebration of a week long program...aim to help educate the campus about the different regions of Africa. The Gala was some what successful. We wore our traditional attires and had some of our food...except that the food was not entirely authentic due to the fact that the event was held in the Welsh Hills room and we are not allowed to have outside catering due to insurance and health related reason. It turned out somwhat nice. If more information on this check out Maybach23's blog and get more. As of right now..I'm in the process of studying for an anatomy test..so until then....see everyone right and early tomorrow.......ONE MORE DAY PEOPLES...AND WE ARE ALL HOME FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Well....we are well on half way through this semester. A couple more days and classes will finally be over with. One can definately tell that the year is coming to a quick end...because today is definately Wednesday....PARTY DAY ON CAMPUS! But the computer labs (all three) are packed, and the library is full. You don't know how long it took me to find a computer here. Now that I have it, similar to other students, I MUST find a way to keep it. It's crazy around this campus right now. Usually by now I'm one of the only nerds stuck in the library or computer lab doing some school related work while everyone else is out bumping music and drinking....but today I have lot and lots of company. Nothing really exciting happened today...as it will remain probably for most of the semester. Went to classes, took a nap, and got right on studying. Right now I'm in the process of studying for my Anatomy final.....BOY THIS ONE IS GOING TO KICK MY ASS! There is so much material to learn for this class. I can barely handle the biweekly exams and now I have to worry about a comprehensive one????? All I can say is......caffeine, caffeine, caffeine and does anyone know of any drugs that helps one retain infomation????? cause I'm really gonn a be needing it. On another note, I would like to say that I think our speeches went pretty well today. I'm just happy it's over with or almost over with. I'm the type of person who don't really like speaking in from of others, so I think fatima did a pretty good job. But now I must return to studying for my test again because I have much to learn and not enough time....so until then......later!!!!

Sigh! What a day it has been. It has been bittersweet....well actually I guess I just got to the point where I said fuck it and decided to take one of those personal days. The take home test that I was trying to finish last night was not working out so I just decided to go to bed and finish it early in the morning before class. I went to bed and woke up at 7:30 and was in the computer lab by 8. But what made me feel better is that I was not the only one there struggling with that test...there was other class mates. So we all decided to skip class and finish the crap up. I threw something together and tried to make sense of things, but I don't know what I was actually doing......simply bsing my way through. So I've come to the conclusion that I HATE TAKE HOME EXAMS! After I finished it, came back to the room, and sleep. and decided it was going to be one of those day...personal days. So my significant other and I decided to get a lil tipsy...and so we did. My roommate and my other girl came and we had a little party in the room, relaxed and watched TV. Then we decided to go to BWW (Buffalo Wild Wings) it was .39 cent wing nites. We had our usual, then decided to make it a BlockBuster night. It's 2 am and we just finished watching the movie. Now we are all heading to be with my cutie pie next to me. But he's along with my bed is calling my name right now so....check out Fatima's blog about what a great weekend we had this past weekend maybach23. Gotta run!

Yeah....it's the beginning of another week.....at the best part of it is...it's the last week. Right now I'm definitely feeling like it has to be over tomorrow. I have a take home exam for my neurophysiology class that is killing me. This test is a bitch! I've been working on it all day. Right now it's about 3am and it's still not done yet. It's bound to be a long ass day for the right of the night and tomorrow. But right now...check out Mattyp blog to see that I'm not the only one feeling this way.

Well...still going with this studying for anatomy test. I just can't wait for the weekend. First of all, my worries about this test would be over....hopefully I do fine....I will be really pissed especially since I put two weeks in studying for it. The next good thing is that a group of girls and I are heading out to Michigan. We are first making a stop in East Lansing to watch my brother spring football game. If you've read Fatima's blog lately...Maybach23 she made reference to the fact that my bro plays for Michigan State Spartans. He is a running back.....Michigan Spartan. Then we are heading to detroit to do a little partying. a well deserved partying. Got to celebrate for working so hard this week and also for preparation for finals. I totally can't wait. It's about to be the bomb. But anyways until tomorrow...I can't start having fun yet..so back to studying for me....oh and here is another story about my life and why I'm here in the united states. My life story. A sad but very truthful story.

Hey all....Well we have gotten past the hump. Only a few more days left and then we have one more week til finals. I personally can't wait. As usual, nothing really exciting have been going on in my life. This whole week including last week, I have been studying for an anatomy test. If I didn't know any better, I would say that this teacher is trying to kill us. There is so much stuff that is going to be on this exam. Too much stuff packed into one exam. This is what I'm going to be doing the rest of the week.Definitely nothing exciting to be blogging about. So until then....check out Allison's blog.
